First Glimpse of the Razer Phone in Singapore!

Powerful visuals flitting across the keynote. Loud clicking and bright flashes from the cameras. Loud thumping of the bass, a buzzed murmur of excitement. The pop of confetti, then loud applause, signalling the official launch of the Razer Phone in Singapore – the first in Asia to bear witness to the momentous occasion.

The first for the Singaporean-run company, the Razer Phone boasts some interesting specs, including a 120Hz display that has only been previously seen on a Sharp device, 64GB of memory, expandable space, Dolby Atmos speakers, 8GB of RAM and a 4,000mAh battery.

And Razer CEO Tan Ming-Liang sure took advantage of that fact during his keynote presentation, when he unveiled the phone at Sitex, together with its local partner, Singtel.

At first glance, the Razer phone sports a sleek, thin body decked out in black, even though the design is rather blockish. Holding onto it, however, reveals a slight weight – not quite as heavy as other phones in the market, but definitely greater than expected.

When flipped to the back, the silver edges of the Razer logo can be seen in an otherwise minimalistic design, unless you happen to be the lucky winner of the limited-edition version, which will then feature a green-tinted one instead.

As the Razer Phone is meant to to be held in a landscape position, there’s a distinct lack of buttons and the like by its sides, with speaker pores taking up the space instead. It may seem like something trivial, but it’s not without reason – doing so removes interruptions in the midst of gaming sessions, such as the accidental clicking of the ‘home’ button, thus allowing for a better gaming experience.

The Razer Phone is a classic example of how numbers don’t lie. The 120Hz refresh rate mentioned earlier really stays true to its promise of delivering smooth and lag-free navigation. In the video below, see how there’s virtually zero lag when scrolling:

Here’s another one to show how slick gameplay can get:

Let’s be honest, it’s probably every gamer’s dream to have such seamless gameplay for seven whole hours before the battery runs flat.

First impressions count, and the Razer Phone has certainly demonstrated enough power and grace to amaze the masses. Stay tuned to our review to see if it lives up to expectations.

In the meantime, why not go down to the Singtel booth at SITEX 2017 to check it out? Good news: Pre-order is available across the four-day event. Even better news: Singtel’s Combo 2 plan is selling it for S$598, which sees users paying S$42.90 each month. It’s quite the steal, so be sure to not miss out on the deal if you’re already thinking of buying the phone!
