Explore Star Trek’s 50th Anniversary Fan Event In LA

Captain’s Log, Stardate 47634.44

Space, The Final Frontier….. It has been 50 years since the original Constitution Class starship, the famed U.S.S. Enterprise, embarked on its first journey, to boldly go where no man has gone before, and its trek through the galaxy has only just begun.

Come 20th May 2016, director Justin Lin, who’s directing the upcoming Star Trek Beyond movie, is inviting Star Trek fans from all around the world to join him, along with the cast and crew of the new movie, for a FIRST-EVER 50th Anniversary celebration cum Star Trek Beyond sneak preview.

Full details for the day’s celebration are still sketchy at the moment, but it will take place at the historic Paramount Pictures Studios in Los Angeles from 7pm onwards, with the following announced line-up:

  • Premiere of the newest & final trailer for Star Trek Beyond trailer.
  • An exclusive first-look of never before seen footage from the upcoming film.
  • A Q&A with Lin and the cast and crew (to be streamed via Facebook Live).
  • Special guests appearances, and other surprises.

The question now is, who from the Star Trek universe will be joining in the fun at the event? For an event of this scale and significance, we’re expecting nothing short of the full cast.

And by that, we don’t just mean appearances by the cast of NuTrek. Chris Pine, Zachery Quinto, Karl Urban, Zoe Seldana, John Cho, Simon Pegg and Anton Yelchin will definitely be there, but the legacy of Star Trek is more than just the new film. It’s about honouring the franchise and dare we say it, The Needs Of The Many Outweigh The Needs Of The Few, Or The One.

According to our red shirt sources at Section 31, there is a strong possibility that Paramount will take this opportunity to honour the recent passing of Leonard Nimoy aka Spock and a special appearance by William Shatner aka James Tiberius Kirk is a must. Now that would be a fitting tribute. And we can only hope that original stars Walter Koenig, Nichelle Nichols and George Takei will be there as well.

After all, Nimoy’s Spock is the ONLY in-universe character to be a part of almost every incarnation of Star Trek that has been ever produced, and that deserves its own special place in our hearts.

Dare we expect that Fuller details (yeah, we went there. Don’t empty your load of photon torpedoes on us) on the next Star Trek TV series will also be announced? Make It So!

And unless there’s a transporter incident or a malfunction with the shuttle craft, Geek Culture will be reporting LIVE from the fan event. Beam Us Up Scotty!

Live Long And Prosper.

“As a lifelong fan of Trek, we wanted to do something special for the fans and we couldn’t think of a better way to do that than creating an event dedicated to them in the year that we also come together to celebrate the series’ amazing 50th year.” – Justin Lin

Here’s a little more about the upcoming film:

“Star Trek Beyond”, the highly anticipated next installment in the globally popular Star Trek franchise, created by Gene Roddenberry and reintroduced by J.J. Abrams in 2009, returns with director Justin Lin (“The Fast and the Furious” franchise) at the helm of this epic voyage of the U.S.S. Enterprise and her intrepid crew. In “Beyond,” the Enterprise crew explores the furthest reaches of uncharted space, where they encounter a mysterious new enemy who puts them and everything the Federation stands for to the test.

Opening 22 July, 2016 from Paramount Pictures and Skydance, “Star Trek Beyond” is a Bad Robot, Sneaky Shark, Perfect Storm Entertainment production. The film stars John Cho, Simon Pegg, Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Zoë Saldana, Karl Urban, Anton Yelchin and Idris Elba. Directed by Lin, the third film in the franchise series is produced by J.J. Abrams, Roberto Orci, Lindsey Weber, and Lin; and executive produced by Jeffrey Chernov, David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, and Tommy Harper. Based upon “Star Trek” created by Gene Roddenberry, the screenplay is written by Pegg & Doug Jung.
